Women’s Tennis: The Cardinals Women tennis stepped out onto the hardwood last Sunday, coming up short against St. Mary’s College by a score of 8-1. Freshman Madeline Urban represented the team’s lone victory. Urban defeated St. Mary’s Kate Grabarek in two straight sets by a score of 6-3. The ladies take on cross-town rival Aurora University on Sunday April 17th.
Women’s Golf: Switching from the hardwood to the greens, the Lady’s Golf team finished 3rd in the Illinois College Spring Invitational last weekend. Senior Alyssa Gauido placed 3rd overall in the two day tourney with a score of 169. The Cardinals are idle until April 16th, in which they will compete in the Illinois Wesleyan University Spring Invitational.
Women’s Lacrosse: Moving onto the gridiron, NCC’s lacrosse team had quite a busy week to say the least. With four games this week, the Cardinals got on the right foot by dismantling opponent Olivet College on Sunday by a score of 20-3. Unfortunately, the Cards could not carry their momentum further into the week after coming up short against Carthage College and Trine University. The ladies continue play on Sunday April 10 against College of Mount St. Joseph.
Women’s Softball: Continuing to the Diamond, the Softball team won two of four games this week. First the Cardinals split a doubleheader with conference rival Elmhurst College. After dropping game one 1-0 in ten innings, the ladies’ bats caught fire by scoring 11 runs, resulting in an 11-5 victory. Up next was local rival Benedictine University. Yet again the ladies split another doubleheader, winning game one 7-6 in nine innings and losing game two 14-1. The 12-6 sluggers will continue their busy week with Saint Mary’s College on Sunday April 10th.
Women’s Track & Field: Moving outdoors, the Women’s Track and Field squad won the Chicagoland Outdoor Championships on Saturday. The ladies squeezed their way into 1st place, finishing just ahead of Carthage College. Junior javelin thrower Bri Tolliver finished in 1st place with a high of 107 feet, seven inches. Up next for the ladies is the Wheaton College Twilight event hosted by Wheaton College on Saturday April 16th.
Men’s Tennis: Going from Women’s athletics to Men’s athletics, the Men’s tennis team defeated Judson University and Carthage College by scores of 5-4 earlier in the week. Junior Matt Boguslawski cruised in both of his singles matches..
Men’s Golf: The Men’s golf team finished 9th in the two day Augustana Invitational, being led by Senior Nick Guido. Guido finished the two day tourney with a combine score 148, good enough for 5th overall. The golfers are off until this Friday where they will compete in CCIW Championships.
Men’s Baseball: The 11-6 Cards continue to impress, winning four out of their five games this week. The bats got hot this week as they out slugged CCIW opponent North Park University 12-11. Two days later the boys defeated Milikin Univeristy in a doubleheader by scores of 17-4 and 10-7. Up next was yet again another conference opponent, Carthage College. North Central split the two game set with the Big Red, dropping game one 5-4, while bouncing back to win game two 6-3 in 10 innings. Catcher Michael Corrgian continues to stay hot as he is tied with a team high four home runs.
Men’s Track & Field Last but not least, the Men’s track and field squad continues to dominate, as they won their third consecutive Chicagoland Outdoor Championship Tournament. The Cards had six event winners, one being decathlon winner Joe Schneiderbauer. Up next for the men is the Wheaton College Twilight event hosted by Wheaton College on Saturday April 16th.
